The RAF 47 Squadron Memorial
The National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield in Staffordshire is the UK’s year-round centre of remembrance; a spiritually uplifting place which honours the sacrifices of the UK’s both military and civilian personnel. It is set in 150 acres of parkland with over 30,000 trees.
RAF 47 Squadron Memorial is one of its newest additions. Peter designed the memorial to integrate into the riverside setting in the arboretum. The figurative sculpture in corten steel makes a striking change in the arboretum’s collection. It also depicts RAF 47 Squadron’s many campaigns in areas as diverse as Burma, the Falklands and Iraq. It is already proving to be a visitor favourite.
RAF 47 Squadron are based at Brize Norton. The memorial was unveiled on March 1st 2017 to help celebrate the squadron’s centenary.
